Navajo Nation Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan

“Infrastructure is the basic physical and organizational structure needed for the operation of a society or enterprise, or the facilities necessary for an economy to function.It can be generally defined as the set of interconnected structural elements that provide a framework supporting an entire structure of development. It is an important term for judging a region’s development.

What is the Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan?

• It is a Plan of the needed Infrastructure for Navajo Nation Communities and Navajo Nation Entities to support the Navajo People.
• It is a Six Year plan that is updated every year.
• It is NOT a comprehensive plan Land Use Plan.
• Infrastructure generally have a high dollar value, it is not part of annual operating budget; not an annual expense and infrastructure is the responsibility of the local government and related to the local government’s other functions and expenditures.

Who can participate?

• Any entity on the Navajo Nation is encouraged to create an infrastructure capital improvement plan.
• Participants in the Navajo Nation’s ICIP process can include: 
  –  All Navajo Nation Chapters.
  –  All Navajo Nation Divisions, Departments and   Programs.
  –  Certain entities serving the Navajo Nation in the   capacity of non-profit status.
